Papeterie Writing compendium, brown leather and wood, brass lock in the front. Printed in gilding in the centre of the lid is: "Papeterie". The inside of the lid is lined with blue fabric. The inside of the box is lined with paper patterned with a geometric design. There is a removable tray inset into the box, with five compartments, one covered by a small lid with: "MATCHES" embossed in gold. There are three compartments on the side of the box, two covered by a small lid with: "VIGNETTES / WAFERS" embossed in gold. In the third compartment is an empty glass ink bottle with a metal screw lid. Also inside the box is a metal cylinder containing pencil lead, twelve fountain pen nibs, nib sharpener, and many loose pieces of pencil lead. Papeterie Writing compendium, brown leather and wood, brass lock in the front. Printed in gilding in the centre of the lid is: "Papeterie". The inside of the lid is lined with blue fabric. The inside of the box is lined with paper patterned with a geometric design. There is a removable tray inset into the box, with five compartments, one covered by a small lid with: "MATCHES" embossed in gold. There are three compartments on the side of the box, two covered by a small lid with: "VIGNETTES / WAFERS" embossed in gold. In the third compartment is an empty glass ink bottle with a metal screw lid. Also inside the box is a metal cylinder containing pencil lead, twelve fountain pen nibs, nib sharpener, and many loose pieces of pencil lead. WILLIAMS, JAMES NELSON (1837-1915), a son of Bishop William Williams (q.v.) was born at Waimate North, and in the fifties went to Hawke's Bay to take up sheep-farming.
