WWII Military Draft Lists
James Low 🔍 ASHFrom 1940-45, men aged 18-46 were selected by ballot for potential service with the Armed Forces under New Zealand's wartime conscription. Twenty-four ballot lists were published in the NZ Gazette.
NOTE: Being listed in a ballot did not necessarily mean the person served in the military. Some had already volunteered, others were found medically unfit, granted deferment or exemption on appeal, or were never called up for active service. These records document those selected for possible service, not confirmed service personnel.

1018 South African War, 1899-1902 World War I, 1914-1918 Son of Janet and Thomas Low After his service with the New Zealand Mounted Rifles he sought employment in South Africa. He wrote complaining that whilst he was offered employment with the Transvaal Railways as an inspector he discovered, unfairly he believed, he had to return to New Zealand for discharge. He later served 3 and half years with the South African Flying Corps. At the time of demobilisation, 1918 he offered his services to the New Zealand Flying Corps April 1918.
