WWII Military Draft Lists
Thomas Donald 🔍 ASHFrom 1940-45, men aged 18-46 were selected by ballot for potential service with the Armed Forces under New Zealand's wartime conscription. Twenty-four ballot lists were published in the NZ Gazette.
NOTE: Being listed in a ballot did not necessarily mean the person served in the military. Some had already volunteered, others were found medically unfit, granted deferment or exemption on appeal, or were never called up for active service. These records document those selected for possible service, not confirmed service personnel.

| Thomas Kennedy MacDonald | MACDONALD, THOMAS KENNEDY (1847-1914), a son of Thomas R. Macdonald, of Fort William, Scotland, was born in Boulogne-sur-Mer, and educated in Dundee and Adelaide, Australia. Coming to New Zealand in 1871, he was employed as a clerk in the barracks in Wellington, and later established the firm of T. K. Macdonald and Co., auctioneers, land and estate agents. He was a founder and director of the Wellington Tramways Co. and of the Equitable Building and Investment Co. (1877). In 1877-78 Macdonald served in the Wellington City Council. He was chairman and manager of the Wellington Woollen Manufacturing Co. (1886-96). He was elected to represent Wellington City in the House of Representatives in 1890, but retired in 1891. He was a member of the royal commission on the Public Trust office (1891) and of that on Polhill Gully (1892), and was chairman of the harbour board (1906-07). Macdonald was called to the Legislative Council in 1908, and resigned in 1911. He died on 17 Oct 1914. NZPD., 1891, 1903-11, 10 Oct 1914; Who's Who NZ, 1908; Cycl. | Thomas Morell MacDonald | MACDONALD, THOMAS MORELL (1835-1909) was a son of Dr Alexander Macdonald, who gave up a medical practice in Scotland to become a missionary in Samoa, where his son was born. In 1840 they returned to Kent, and in 1850 came out to New Zealand. After serving his articles with Frederick Whitaker (q.v.), Macdonald was admitted to the bar in 1861, and practised in Invercargill, in partnership with William Russell. He married Charlotte Clements (1843-94), only daughter of Thomas S. Forsaith (q.v.). Macdonald was a member of the Southland Provincial Council for Invercargill (1864-66) and for Campbelltown (1869-70). He was solicitor to the Council until its abolition, when he was appointed crown solicitor. He was chairman of the Southland education board for 11 years, and of the Southland Times to 1896. MACDONALD, THOMAS KENNEDY (1847-1914), a son of Thomas R.

Volume 2, page 6MACDONALD, THOMAS MORELL (1835-1909) was a son of Dr Alexander Macdonald, who gave up a medical practice in Scotland to become a missionary in Samoa, where his son was born. He was a member of the Presbyterian synod. Macdonald died on 15 Mar 1909.
